Orbital ATK Delivers Cygnus Spacecraft Service Module for NASA ISS Mission
Orbital ATK, a defense and aerospace technology solution provider, has recently delivered the Cygnus spacecraft’s service module to NASA. NASA will be using this service module for the next cargo delivery mission to the International Space Station, which is scheduled to be launched next December. Orbital ATK has been responsible for providing NASA with cargo delivery services under their commercial resupply services (CRS) contract. This Cygnus spacecraft will be put together and assembled at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket will be utilized in order to launch the spacecraft.
This launch will mark the first flight of the upgraded variant of the Cygnus spacecraft, which is reported to be capable of delivering more than 7,700 pounds of crew equipment, supplies, and resources for scientific experiments.

The Cygnus spacecraft’s service module will be equipped with an extended pressurized cargo module, and will hold a variety of avionics, communications, electrical, and propulsion systems. The spacecraft will be powered by Orbital ATK’s Ultraflex solar arrays in addition to the most recent lightweight space-qualified power system technology. Within the next year, NASA has scheduled three other commercial resupply services missions of Cygnus in order to support cargo supply to the ISS.
