NAS Standard Parts for Aviation

NAS standard parts are aerospace components manufactured or specified according to National Aerospace Standards (NAS) maintained through the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) and its National Aerospace Standards Committee (NASC). These standards define requirements for aerospace-component design, dimensions, materials, performance, testing, and identification.

What Are NAS Standard Parts?

NAS parts include aerospace hardware, high-strength fasteners such as bolts, screws, nuts, washers, rivets, and pins. The NAS library covers electrical components, bearings, fittings, materials, testing, and other aerospace requirements.

Examples include NAS 1329-A9, NAS 124 and NAS 1142-4. NAS numbers may contain letters, suffixes, and dash numbers identifying size, configuration, material, finish, or other characteristics. A NAS designation identifies a specific standard or specification; it does not alone prove that a component is interchangeable with another part or approved for every aircraft application.

Applications of NAS Standard Parts

NAS components are used in aerospace manufacturing, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), commercial aviation, military aviation, and related aerospace applications. Suitability depends on the NAS specification and engineering or maintenance requirements.

How to Identify a NAS Part

Preserve the complete part number, including letters, suffixes, and dash numbers. Verify:

  • Complete NAS part number
  • Applicable specification and revision
  • Dimensions and configuration
  • Material and finish
  • Manufacturer and CAGE Code, when available
  • NSN or NIIN, if assigned
  • Required certification and traceability

The FAA recognizes NAS among industry specifications usable for standard parts when applicable requirements are met.

NAS vs. MS and AS Parts

NAS, MS, and AS standard parts belong to different standards families. Similar descriptions or dimensions do not establish interchangeability. Review the applicable specification, aircraft documentation, engineering data, or maintenance publication before substitution. Related MS standard parts may appear alongside NAS hardware, while the aviation parts catalog may provide part numbers, manufacturers, and NSNs.

Request NAS Standard Parts

For procurement, provide the NAS part number, quantity, manufacturer, required condition, delivery requirement, and documentation or traceability needs. ASAP Semiconductor can review sourcing requirements for NAS components. Verify catalog information against the applicable specification and procurement requirements before ordering or installation.
