Bombardier Global 6000 Aircraft Sets Two World Speed Records

The Bombardier Global 6000 aircraft, the company’s third-generation, large cabin, ultra-long range jet, has been recently demonstrated by NetJets that the aircraft is certainly capable of offering travelers with great range capabilities in an ultimate luxury aircraft cabin.

On October 20th, the Global 6000 aircraft departed from Aspen Pitkin Country Airport in Colorado and flew to London City Airport in the United Kingdom, all in a record time of eight hours. The flight crew then followed up with a round trip between London City and Lugano Airport in the Swiss Alps. These three airports are claimed to be some of the most challenging in the world. This flight is currently awaiting approval from the National Aeronautics Association (NAA), who will then, upon validation, submit the record flight to the Federation Aeronautique Internationale in Lausanne, Switzerland, for international ratification.

Similar aircraft in this class of ultra-long range business jets are also capable of flying non-stop between these cities, though, unlike the Global 6000, are not certified to fly into London City, according to the NetJets pilot, Don Wittke.

“A normal glide slope is 3 degrees; these [approaches] were nearly double,” Wittke added.

These demonstration flights held by NetJets had no passengers on either flights, and were used to illustrate the versatility and power of the Global 6000 aircraft. The company intended on further emphasizing that there is no need for operators to compromise and utilize alternate airports located near where they wish to go, rather than flying directly there. With the Global 6000, operators can fly point-to-point, regardless of how challenging the airfields are to access.

“People fly privately to have complete control over their schedule, and these flights demonstrate how we can provide the ability for NetJets customers to do unique missions,”

said the NetJets executive vice president of sales and marketing, Patrick Gallagher.
