Lockheed Martin Delivers First Danish MH-60R Romeo to US Navy
The United Stated Navy has recently accepted the very first MH-60R helicopter variant for Denmark from Lockheed Martin, in a ceremony on Tuesday. This ceremony took place in Owego, New York, at a Lockheed Martin facility. The MH-60R was manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft and is equipped with advanced mission sensors and systems from Lockheed Martin. Denmark revealed in 2012 that they would be acquiring a total of nine MH-60R aircraft in order to perform missions such as search and rescue, surveillance, anti-surface warfare, and anti-piracy. The MH-60R is deployed and operational as the main United States Navy anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare system for both littoral zones and Open Ocean.
"We are excited to accept this aircraft bound for Denmark,"
said program executive officer for air anti-submarine warfare, assault and special mission programs, Rear Adm. CJ Jaynes.
"The Romeo is the U.S. Navy's primary rotary anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare platform in operation and we're proud to know these will be flying soon with the Royal Danish Air Force -- our first Sea-hawks in Europe."
Before being sent off to the Royal Danish Air Force, these MH-60R aircrafts will be entered into a series of tests in order to validate the Danish configuration modifications. By the second quarter of 2016, the first aircraft will be delivered to Denmark. By 2018, the full fleet should be delivered.
"MH-60R helicopters host the complete package of sensors and systems that address today's increasing threats,"
said Lockheed Martin vice president of Aviation and Unmanned Systems, Dan Spoor.
"We are honored to extend our international partnership with the Royal Danish Air Force to deliver these capabilities and the technology that will protect our allies around the globe."
Following the Royal Australian Navy, Denmark will be the second international partner in the MH-60R program.
