Know More About a Well-Known Company Motorola, Motorola is a very well-known US based telecommunications company. The company, originally Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, was established in Chicago, Illinois in 1928. Its first product introduced to the market was the battery eliminator. The Motorola radio was introduced in 1930, at which time the Motorola name was adopted and trademarked. Most of Motorola’s products deal with radios and radio equipment, although it has expanded to defense electronics, infrastructure equipment, and mobile phone manufacturing.

During World War II, the company specialized in producing defense electronics and radio equipment. It was one of the primary suppliers for Allied communication and was ranked 94th among US corporations for World War II military contracts. It wasn't until 1943 that Motorola went public. Between 2007 and 2009, the company lost $4.3 billion, resulting of its division into two independent companies named Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions. In 2012, Google acquired Motorola Mobility, the handset division of the company.

Products Essential in Day-to-Day Life

Motorola designs wireless network infrastructures using cellular transmission base stations and signal amplifiers. Motorola’s products include set-top boxes, digital video recorders, network equipment for video broadcasting, and high-definition television. It services companies, small businesses, and government customers. Motorola is known for being a pioneer of cellular telephones, being one of the first to create the flip phone, which took over the mobile phone market back in 2004. Many will probably know of the RAZR, which was one of the most successful flip phones back in the early 2000s. Recently, it has been active in the mobile Smartphone market using Google’s Android operating system, known as the Motorola Droid. The GSM version, known as the Motorola Milestone, was launched a month later in Europe. Motorola’s product offering in general includes tablet computers, mobile phones, smart phones, two-way radios, networking systems, cable television systems, wireless broadband networks, RFID systems, and mobile telephone infrastructure. The company employs 60,000 people, the current president is Dan Moloney, and the CEO is Dennis Woodside.
