The HondaJet HA-420 Receives FAA Certification

Headquartered at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Honda Aircraft Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of automotive giant Honda Motor Company. Founded in August 2006, the Honda Aircraft Company is entirely dedicated to the manufacturing and marketing of the long-awaited HondaJet, the company’s inaugural aircraft. Parent company Honda generates roughly $117 billion in sales from its famed portfolio of cars, motorcycles, and power systems. Starting in the early 1980s when Honda began researching the idea of producing a small size business jet, the HondaJet HA-420 program is three decades in the making at a cost of $1.5 - $2 billion.

On March 27, 2015, the HondaJet received provisional type certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, clearing it as safe for flying. Being one of the most anticipated business aircraft in recent times, the HA-420 has an order backlog dating back to 2006 for the $3.7 million jet. Nearly a decade later, customers will soon be awarded for their patience as deliveries of the HA-420 are slated to go out now that the aircraft has received FAA approval.

Designed with a 5.43 meter long, 1.52 meter wide, and 1.47 meter high spacious cabin, the HA-420 comfortably accommodates five passengers in classic club configuration with an additional single-seat divan.

Backed by two GE Honda HF120 turbofan engines providing 8.04kN of maximum thrust each, the HondaJet HA-420 climbs at a rate of 20.27 meters per second to reach a service ceiling of 13,107 meters. The engines are designed and developed domestically in Burlington, North Carolina by joint venture General Electric Honda Aero Engines. The HA-420 reaches top speeds of 778 kilometers per hour and flies for ranges of 2,593 kilometers.
