Posted on March 4, 2016 Kyle Salem Aircraft News

According to PressTV.ir, the US Air Force released an image of the newest stealth bomber on February 26, 2016 known as the B-21 (which is considered the very first American bomb of the 21st century).

The B-21 was known as the Long Range Strike Bomber or LRS-B before the concept of the plane was release. This was addressed by the Air Force Association’s Air Warfare Symposium by Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James in Florida.

James talk about the importance of this aircraft.

“This aircraft represents the future for our airmen, and [their] voice is important to this process.”

James goes on and mentions that the final name of the aircraft will be announced sometime this fall 2016 at the conference.

Northrop Grumman is in charge of the B-21. There has been no evidence that a prototype is available for this advanced fighter jet however the concept that is seen is just a rendering at this current time.

Aside from the B-21, the country’s newest bomber is the B-2 which is in fact not so new as it is considered 25 years old. During the 1980’s, the US military was still flying B-1s and B-52s in the 1950 respectively.

James also talks a little bit about the requirements of the B-21. She mentions that the new plane is designed

“based on a set of requirements that allows the use of existing and mature technology.”

At this current time, the aircraft’s capability will be tested sometime during the mid-2020s.
